We Rent A Car: We have the car for only a week, and now we wish we had rented it a month ago. We have rented cars in years past, but had almost forgotten what fun it is to drive the country roads. Some are gravel and some are smooth. Some are rough and sometimes there are holes and water to dodge and huge bumps to go over slowly. Other roads are lined with beautiful green bushes with the only color being the pink Bridal Veil Lace vine that skims over the tops seeking sunshine. Phil and I enjoy seeing all we can of Mexico. We often have no definite plans as to just exactly where we are going. If something looks interesting we check it out. What fun that is and what wonderful experiences we have had.
Thursday, March 14, 2019 – El Tuito: Just outside of El Tuito, we saw a sign PAN CALIENTE, which translates to Hot Bread. We stopped and there was a young girl baking what looked like some kind of rolls about 2″ by 6″ in a wood fired oven. We decided to try one, and we found out they were in different flavors – cheese, apple, pineapple, coconut, and a couple more. We decided to try one of the pineapple. Wow! WoW!! WOW!!! Warm filled with fruit and delicious. We bought 4 more pineapple, and one cheese. In El Tuito we stopped at the green house with the green roof where a lady bakes cookies. Here is Phil coming out of her house with a bag full…..really good cookies! Carbs, Carbs, Carbs and Fat, Fat, Fat.
Along our drive past El Tuito, cows were nibbling the green grass along the roadside. Cows are naturally curious and this one seemed to want her photo taken. She is a beauty indeed.
Leaving El Tuito, we continued on off Highway 200, which is the primary coastal road that runs south of Puerto Vallarta. Then we took a secondary road that led to Mayto and the ocean.
Below – I took the photo of a roadside cemetery somewhere in the country. Not near any town at all. The tombstones were all white and if a cemetery can be lovely, this one certainly was very angelic.
……….A Divide in the Road: To the right we drove DOWN into Tehuanixtle. This is a beautiful little fishing village that sits on the edge of a little bay with calm ocean waters, looks out at the ocean, and the mountains. One of the prettiest views we have ever seen. It is on the edge of a beach that goes on for miles, and is totally undeveloped. When we were there a few years ago, the road to get there was a dirt road. It is now about 75% paved and they are working on it. We predict that in years to come, this will be one of the best, hottest destinations in Mexico. From the restaurant that is perched at the edge of the beach you can see the fishing boats tied in the ocean waiting for the morning of fishing. There is a sheltered bay with a nice beach with people snorkeling and wading. Only one street took us into the main area and it was steep. Phil remarked that he wondered if we would be able to drive up it to get out. Of course, we knew we could. A couple of hotels overlooked the beach. We stopped at a nice place for a refreshment after some miles of dusty roads. Phil had a shrimp cocktail and I had a beer. The view of the mountains, the ocean, the lovely beach, and the fishing boats was spectacular. Then we saw raw oysters being caught, opened and served in the restaurant. We don’t do raw oysters, but trays of them were served to other people. Here are a couple of my photos…(truth be told, I have never taken just a couple of photos of one thing!!!)
We did not stay overnight this time, but relived the memories of our stay a couple of years ago…..El CieltoThe other divide in the road led us to a place we had stayed in the past. Called El Cielto. A few beautiful cabanas in a gorgeous setting right on the ocean. Every cabana was just one level and has a hammock on the patio. I remember enjoying being in one counting the little geckos on the ceiling of the patio. There is a nice infinity swimming pool with long, sandy beaches as far as one can see on either side of this unusual place.
The Road Home to Girasol, to our condo was uneventful with cool air through the Sierra Madre mountains bringing a refreshing breeze in the car windows, and a beautiful orange sunset waiting for us. That’s all for this day……………………Be well, Anne & Phil.
